Unable to open VoiceMessage.wav

August 8, 2012 - Outlook

Unable to open voicemail file attachements.

When using a voicemail system that delivers voicemails via exchange/outlook, outlook will occasionally reach the maximum number of times it can open the same file name.

When opening an attachement in Outlook it will attach a number to the end of the file name if a duplicate filename exists in the Outlook temp directory. because of this at somepoint Outlook will no longer do this because it has reached 100 copies if the same file. So at this point you have to go clean up the temp directory.

The Location of Outlook Temp folder

The location to the Temp folder is unique and also hidden, locating it on your computer requires a trip into the registry.

Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<VERSION NUMBER>\Outlook\Security

<VERSION NUMBER> should be replaced with the version of outlook/office you have installed

Value name: OutlookSecureTempFolder

Copy the path mentioned in the OutlookSecureTempFolder value name and paste it into the Address Bar of Explorer or in a Run command to open it.

Once there delete the offending 100 files.
